Hey Folks!

Thanks for clicking on the link to my personal fundraising page for Hoot 'N Howl - my weekly show on Portland's XRAY FM

Some of you may remember that I was once a DJ out on the scene here in Portland.  I played many nights a week in all sorts of venues and for all variety of events for well over 15 years beginning in the mid 2000’s.  Playing my collection for people out in public and curating specialty soundtracks for special events has always meant a lot to me, combining a love of music, my skill for hearing; knowing music theory and why songs sound nice together, and my soft skills of observation; knowing how to read a room and anticipate the mood and needs of the function and establishment.  These talents have made me great at this thing and I did manage to eke out a meager living doing it for a period of my life.  Although I do not play in public any longer, I am very very pleased to be on-the-air at XRAY FM.

I still remember receiving the email from Maryam regarding a potential new radio station and the inquiry into my interest in having a show.  This was Fall of 2013.   I was heavily DJ’ing out on the scene and also had a weekly show on Portland Radio Authority, which started as a low-powered pirate radio station and morphed into an early internet radio station somewhere in the late oughts.   I was thrilled at the idea of being on the radio again and jumped at the chance to get involved.   The first meetings at XRAY were a veritable who's-who of Portland music of the time. We had a huge group of wildly talented musicians, DJ’s, and industry people STOKED to start up a crazy little radio station.  We were energized!

Many things have changed around the city of Portland, the country, and the world since 2014.  Here at XRAY we have many new and wonderful people just as excited as the first group of people way back then.  The station has expanded from it's meager beginnings in a teeny-tiny-itsy-bitsy studio in SE -- lovingly known as, 'man-funk' because it was basically a sweaty little microwave oven with no air -- to an office and 3 studios inside NE Portland's Falcon Arts Building, surrounded by beautiful paintings and rooms to make our own.  The space was built out over time to suit our needs as a growing station. We acquired used equipment from a station in SoCal, and through the support of our listeners was able to also buy new gear for our production studios and tools used to broadcast from satellite locations all around Portland. XRAY CONTINUES TO GROW GROW GROW!

One thing is still very very true and unchanging …. XRAY could not exist today if it weren't for the support of our community, our listeners, and our members!

XRAY FM is listener supported, non-conglomerate, non-commercial community radio.  We are regular people with regular lives who love radio and want to share our records, our ideas, our memories, our thoughts with you - our neighbors.  Even if you live 2800 miles away on the East Coast of the US or even farther away somewhere in the UK and beyond, YOU are our neighbor!

Hoot ‘N Howl is an oldies radio show that airs for one hour every Sunday. It has aired every Sunday since March of 2014!  As my life has changed so has the show.  I appreciate all of my listeners and anyone who ever says hello out in person, as I believe radio people are a special breed. I know meeting a radio voice in real-life is a weird experience.  If you recognize my voice from the radio out in the world and say hello to me, I am just as happy to meet you as you may be to meet me.  I am blown away at the number of people who send me messages of appreciation of Hoot ‘N Howl.

I know times are harder than ever for more people than ever before, but if you can chip in any donation to help me reach my personal fundraising goals on this peer-to-peer page, please know it really does make a difference for the station.

Please continue to tune in!
